UPDATE: Organizations and Individuals Call on ILC to Reject Harry Roque

Harry Roque-Video Tantrum Against HCWs

Saturday, 11 September 2021

Thank you for your support to the petition against the nomination of Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque to the International Law Commission (ILC). Since the start of the sign-on campaign on August 16, 2021, we have the following updates:

  1. So far, as of September 11, 2021, 7:00pm, 149 local, regional, national and international organizations have signed the petition.

  2. While 13,020 individuals from 69 countries signed to join our call. (For the latest numbers, view signatories here.)

  3. We expect these numbers to increase as the campaign continues until the ILC convenes to elect nominees in November this year (2021).

  4. We have sent the petition letter to

    1. States in the Western European and Eastern European region

    2. States in the Asia Pacific region

    3. States in the Latin American and Caribbean region

  5. We've already sent the letter to nearly 100 recipients and plans to do so for the rest in the coming days.

  6. Considering that the UN is currently on their summer break, responses may be delayed. However, we are exploring other avenues to get updates from the listed recipients. We are in the process of organizing dialogues with targeted diplomats to further push for the petition.

  7. In the meantime, we call on all signatories, individuals and organizations, to continue to invite others to sign the petition and campaign for ILC's rejection of Harry Roque.

  8. His latest tantrum towards Health Care Workers (HCW) only worsens our current situation and is also indicative of his potential behaviour should he become a member of the ILC.
